German Dax the big loser on EUR strength

The German Dax did not take too well to the higher EUR today.  It fell -1.0% on the day.

The other major indices were mixed at the close:

  • France’s Cac fell -0.32%
  • UK FTSE fell -0.4%
  • Spain’s Ibex rose +0.28%
  • Italy’s FTSE MIB rose +0.41%
  • Portugals PSI20 rose +0.18%

In the 10 year debt sector yields were higher:

  • Germany 0.615%, up 2.7 basis points
  • France 0.888%, up 2.9 basis points
  • UK 1.412%, up 0.6 basis points
  • Spain 1.412%, up 5.5 basis points
  • Italy 1.965%, up 5.7 basis points
  • Portugal 1.911%, up 1.3 basis points

In other financial markets as London/European traders exit shows:

  • Spot gold higher by $1.80 or 0.13% at $1360.23
  • WTI crude oil futures higher by $.46 or 0.69% at $66.06. That is off the highs that reached $66.66.

In the US stock market, the major indices are moving up and down, but are back off the lows:

  • The S&P index is up 7.17 points or 0.25% at 2844.70
  • The NASDAQ composite index is up 20.74 points or 0.28% at 7435.82
  • Tthe Dow industrial average is up 162.7 points or 0.62% 

US yields more mixed:

  • two-year 2.088%, up 1.2 basis points
  • five-year 2.4402%, up 0.7 basis points
  • 10 year 2.641%, -0.5 basis points
  • 30 year 2.901%, -2.7 basis points

The CHF rallied strongly in the NY session after breaking some key levels vs the USD.  It is the strongest currency of the majors today.  The weakest currency is the USD in the midday snapshot.  The greenback is the weakest against the CHF, EUR, and the JPY.
