Il Sole reports that Italy’s parliamentary budget office is questioning the government’s growth targets
This was the headline earlier. And that brought the euro to a low of 1.1466 on the day against the dollar before rebounding a little now to 1.1480. The calmer reaction in Italy’s bond market is surely helping with that regard as yields are slightly lower to start the day.
Anyway, here are some additional details from the report:
- Budget office seen questioning the new outline of the government’s fiscal plan
- That includes the target of 1.5% economic growth in 2019
As mentioned earlier as well, do be reminded that economy/finance minister Tria is due to speak with lawmakers on the government’s fiscal outline, that includes speaking before the budget committee. If the budget office does reject the outline, then parliament may very well ask the government to either review its targets again or provide a new and more reasonable justification for how these figures come about.
